Unboned stays, c. 1580 based on fresco by Alessandro Allori
I was intregued by the painting of the woman at her toilette by Alessandro Allori and couldn't help but wonder, "what if that's what's really underneath those late 16th c. Florentine gowns?" My research into the topic of "soft corseting" or unboned supportive garments will be forthcoming soon. For now, here's the pictures of my first attempt at creating unboned stays.
Stays: Peach silk satin interlined with wool felt, heavy fustian and lined in unbleached linen.
